Trauma Triggered Behaviour

This one day interactive, dynamic workshop demonstrates how the legacy of maltreatment and neglect frequently prevents children from growing up ’normally’ and shows why therapeutic reparenting and truth telling is essential for fostered and adopted children. The day weaves together data on trauma, brain functioning, sensory memories, parenting strategies and child development with practical strategies and behaviour management tools. Discussions and small group exercises throughout the day ensure a ‘learn by doing’ experience. Although the day is packed with information, it’s not a lecture. Please bring curiosity, an open mind and sense of humour.

The workshop is only available to staff and carers from NAFP members, though there is no charge to attendees.

The trainer - Helen Oakwater
Since adopting a sibling group in 1992, Helens quest has been to understand and transform the legacy of childhood trauma. Her first book Bubble Wrapped Children: How social networking is transforming the face of 21st century adoption generated much media interest. A former teacher, now a professional coach and trainer, she incorporates Neuro-Linguistic Progamming (NLP) and business models into her work. She served six years as a trustee for Adoption UK, sat on two local authority adoption panels and was a member of the Government's Adoption Task Force.
